About the Artist

Yana Hammond is an award winning Medical Illustrator and Art Director. She received her BFA degree in Medical Illustration from RIT in 2009 and holds the designation Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI), granted by the Board of Certification of Medical Illustrators (BCMI) in accordance with NCCA standards. She is also an active member of the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI). Before joining Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and its robotic surgery innovation hub, Applied Technology Laboratory for Advanced Surgery (ATLAS) as a Medical Illustrator in 2013, she worked as a Scientific Illustrator at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) which publishes the prestigious Science magazine. Yana has over 11 years experience creating scientific visuals, designs for journal publishing, presentations, patient education and website use, and over 5 years experience as a leader and mentor. As an Art Director, Yana oversees the artwork produced by the ATLAS art team, but also retains her hands-on role as a medical illustrator, designer, and animator.
